Wedding Wednesday

Let’s be real for a minute, when you’re busy planning and researching for your big day, most of the time, all of the tips and tricks are all geared towards your gorgeous bride! But you know what guys – this one’s for YOU. I wanted to switch things up this week and really shift the focus to make this all about the grooms!

On wedding days, I can’t tell you how many people assume that all the groom really needs to do is “show up”! I’ve heard that saying so may times while photographing weddings throughout the years! So, I’ve written out 5 tips for the groom to remember on his wedding day! I hope you find these tips helpful and and it makes the both of you have a relaxing and amazing wedding day!

Tip #1) Don’t forget all the little details on your wedding day! I have seen so many grooms forget what seems as the small details, but can quickly spiral out to much bigger problems! Here is my checklist for the grooms to remember on wedding day:

  •  Shoes
  • Tie/Bow tie
  • Boutonniere(s)
  • Cologne
  • Cufflinks
  • Keepsake Items
  • Gift/Note
  • Watch
  • The Rings

Tip #2) Watch the alcohol. Look, I get it! For the groom, there typically is a lot of time of waiting around before the ceremony time! So, the guys like to take a drink here and there! BUT, there is nothing worse than walking up to your ceremony, and having alcohol literally coming out of your pores! Trust me, I’ve seen it happen. Let’s make sure that’s not what your beautiful bride sees – or smells – when she sees you down the aisle (or at your first look)!

Tip #3) Send your beautiful bride a love letter or a small gift!  Believe me, she is probably a nervous wreck while she is getting ready. Her room is filled with hair and makeup, the photographer (me!), maybe a videographer, family and friends, plus she’s probably hoping the day is running smoothly! But then, in walks someone (a maid of honor, best man, family friend) with a letter or small gift from her man (that’s you), telling her how you can’t wait to see her, how gorgeous she is, how much you love her. I’m telling you, the smile is so worth it! (And I’m not just saying that because I’ll be there to capture it!)

Tip #4) Keep track of your groomsmen! Again guys, I know what this is like! And I know its been a while since a group of you have hung out probably! On top of all that, it’s an extremely special day! But, we all know that there can be that one that got away (literally)! So, just try to make sure that all the guys are aware of where they need to be and at what time! This is SUPER helpful for bridal party images and for getting ready.

Tip #5) Practice, practice, practice! If you are planning to say your own vows or even make a speech, make sure you practice it! Have it written down and keep it with you! If you’re afraid you may misplace it, give it to someone who you know will keep it in a safe place. You’d be surprised once it’s your turn to talk, how quickly you’d forget your own name! (Trust me – been there!)

And a final note, try to relax and have fun! This is a special day for the both of you, and before you know it, we’re taking our final image of the night! So, remember to take it all in and enjoy every single part of your day!
